Peggy Leg The Chihuahua Will Get Bionic Leg

June 13, 2012

Peggy Leg, as she’s called, was born without a foot. She was rescued from a Roswell, New Mexico shelter by Enchantment Chihuahua Rescue and they were determined to get her a prosthetic leg. It turns out, however, that Peggy is going to get a lot better than that. Researchers at North Carolina State University will be giving her a titanium, bionic foot.

The researchers have already successfully done the procedure for a large dog and are doing Peggy’s surgery for free. Without some type of prosthetic, Peggy would require amputation of her whole leg because the weight of the limb is too much for her body. Thankfully it won’t come to that! Peggy now must travel to Raleigh, North Carolina for the various rounds of treatment and we wish her well (dog walking New York).
Though this surgery is gaining popularity in Europe for humans, it requires more research before coming to the United States. Mary Jewell of Enchantment Chihuahua Rescue told KOAT-TV that she hopes Peggy will raise awareness about this type of procedure and ultimately help all the soldier in need of prosthetics.
