Uggie, the Jack Russell terrier, became America’s sweetheart for his work in The Artist and now he’s making history. He recently became the very first pup to get his paws cemented forever in the Grauman’s Chinese Theatre courtyard. Though he is retiring from Hollywood, he can spend the rest of his life proud of his accomplishments with lots to show for them.

In his very special ceremony, on a day that was named “Uggie Day” for all of Los Angeles, the pup pulled up riding in a fire truck and did some tricks for the crowd. After the ceremony, a party was held where Uggie was presented with a fire hydrant-shaped cake.

Uggie’s trainer, Omar Van Muller, told everyone that Uggie’s message was about adopting dogs. He said, “The main message that Uggie would like to send to everybody out there is to please adopt…He’s adopted. He made it. If you guys can adopt a dog, even if they don’t make it on the big screen, they’ll be big stars at your house.”

Now Uggie is amongst the ranks of famous pups like Lassie, Rin Tin Tin and Strongheart who have their paws on the Walk of Fame nearby. And though Uggie is hanging up his acting hat, he’ll still be showing up at charity events and the like (dog walkers in nyc).

Congrats to Uggie!
