According to KOB Eyewitness News, John Ely, the team’s pitcher had been volunteering at Watermelon Ranch in Bernalillo County with other players on the team when he met his future pup. Stevie’s story moved Ely and the others.

Apparently, Stevie was found on the streets with one badly injured eye and another infected one which was already going blind. Both, sadly, had to be removed.

But now, the world “sad” doesn’t come to mind when you watch Stevie run around and play with Ely. He has become a team favorite and everyone asks for Stevie when they come by. Ely explained that his new family member has little to no problem getting around and instead of eyes, he uses his hearing and smell for navigation.

Watch the video below and see just how amazing this pup is. What a happy dog!
