We’ve covered some odd pairings on our blog and we are excited to have another that is exceptionally adorable. PBS airs a show called “Animal Odd Couples” and one of their episodes featured a deer, Pippin, and a Great Dane, Kate, who have an amazing relationship.

Dog Relationships

As a baby, Pippin was abandoned by her mother and adopted by Kate. The relationship began when Isobel Springett, Kate’s owner, heard what sounded like a baby crying. What she found was an abandoned baby deer that she brought into the house. Kate instantly took to the fawn who really came out of her shell. Pippin kept trying to feed from Kate who had no milk, but Kate proved to be patient and kind.

After about two weeks, Pippin wanted to sleep in the woods by herself and she would go off on her own only to return to get food from Springett and play with Kate. After she grew, Pippin would stay away for days and Kate would watch and wait for her return. Pippin eventually found her own herd of deer to be with and graze, yet she would still come back to visit with Kate.(dog walking services nyc)

Springett speaks to their unique relationship in the episode and says, “When they greet each other, I’ve never seen anything like it. It’s not a deer greeting a deer. It’s not a dog greeting a dog. It’s definitely something that they have between the two of them.”

Their friendship is truly amazing and you can learn more about it by watching the full episode here: video.pbs.org/video/2300668052
